Community Healthcare Education
Much of the illness in village communities is preventable and can be attributed to a lack of
healthcare knowledge on basic hygiene, sanitation and nutrition. There are huge benefits
of things like washing your hands, keeping a clean home, and regular body hygiene. In
response, we offer courses to give families the tools they need to prevent common illnesses.
A. Community Healthcare Volunteer Training
Our community healthcare volunteers (CHVs) will first receive training by IHOPE on basic
healthcare lessons with some easy healthcare teaching tools provided.
Once they have received this training, they can then use it to teach their community classes.
Healthcare lessons such as the prevention and treatment of diarrhea, dengue fever and
diabetes, drinking safe and enough water, sanitation and hygiene and clean environment are
taught incommunities according to the most common health problems they have.
B. Community Healthcare Teaching
Community healthcare volunteers, after receiving training, will continue to conduct basic healthcare training to community people, mostly in accordance with taught
lessons and some other beneficial and creative materials. Generally, this would be done within communities by trained community healthcare volunteers, most of
them are church leaders. After teaching, these CHVs will continue to conduct home visits, follow up, and give advice on better healthcare practices for families.
C. Clean Water
In many parts of rural Cambodia, a source of water is scarce, so as a result, people collect water to use from wherever they can find it. This could be a river, lake,
pond or channel. Water from these places is not clean or safe to use. There is a limited understanding on the benefits of clean water, which is another factor that
often leads to people having health problems. A water filter is very important in providing clean and safe drinking water to families every day. Water filters are
convenient, easy to access, and also can help families save time, money and other resources just by having it, ultimately, families are healthier as a result of them.
